The Sheffield shed, measuring over 370, 000 sq ft, follows closely behind Ikea’s Reading store opening last year– its first in seven years.

As well as stocking the entire Ikea range, the new store features inspirational room sets, a 1,000-space car park, a children’s play area and, of course, a restaurant selling its famous meatballs.

Last year, the furniture giant opened a handful of smaller stores it calls Order and Collection points – including one in Westfield, Stratford— as it aims to become more accessible to shoppers across the UK.

It plans to open additional big-box stores in Exeter and Greenwich before the end of 2018.

The retailer, which will celebrate its 30th year in the UK next month, has also bolstered its online and home delivery propositions and is preparing to launch an augmented reality smartphone app in association with Apple.
