Online fashion retailer Koovs has hired Mary Turner, a former Asos director and boss of internet of things firm AlertMe.com, as its boss.

Turner has been a non-executive director of India-based Koovs since July 2014 and will take on the top job at Koovs on October 1.

At the same time Koovs is promoting former Asos product director Robert Bready to the newly created role of chief creative officer.

Turner has experience in developing early stage companies through marketing and scaling operations.

At AlertMe.com she oversaw the development of the Hive Active Heating smart homes solution, which was sold to British Gas.

She also spent over 20 years in the consumer internet sector and was previously marketing director of CompuServe/AOL, chief executive of BTLineOne and chief executive of Tiscali UK.

At Tiscali she led a series of acquisitions and grew the company to become the third largest internet service provider in the UK with over 1.8 million customers and revenues of over €600m (£417m).

Turner spent four years as a non-executive director of Asos between 2009 and 2013. She has also spent eight years in sales and marketing at Innovations Catalogue, Avon Cosmetics and Elizabeth Arden.

Encouraging trading

Meanwhile, Bready is being promoted to chief creative officer after two years as brand director of Koovs.

He will have responsibility for brand, design, buying, merchandising and “all creative input”.

Koovs has also revealed that trading in the first three months of the new financial year was “very encouraging”.

Gross order value is 203% higher than the same period last year, against a “backdrop of restrained levels of marketing investment during the period”.
