50 superstores and 42 megastores have been revamped since July’s announcement, with a futher 23 set to be completed by the end of the financial year

The electricals retailer is switching from paper product pricing to digital labelling or “electronic shelf edge labelling” (ESEL), which will see around 100 UK and Ireland stores transform. Of that number, 60 stores will go digital before the Christmas peak.

New, clear labelling and easy to scan QR codes aim to make the customer experience smoother in store. ESEL will be managed by a centralised system set to improve pricing accuracy and availability.

Currys has also added a digital queuing system across all its 298 stores in the country, which will be fronted by what the retailer has dubbed “sales floor leaders” on hand to welcome customers.

Shoppers can join a digital line to speak to a tech expert, with the intention of improving the in-store experience, better managing wait time expectations, and freeing them up to browse the store until a colleague is ready to serve them.

Improvements have been made back of house to how stock is delivered and managed through Currys order and collect service, and the amount of time uncollected products are held in stores has been cut down from 28 days to 10 days.

As well as this, Currys has been upgrading its store estate with 50 superstores and 42 megastores revamped since July’s announcement. A futher 23 are set to be completed by the end of the financial year.

Currys director of stores Matthew Speight said: â€œWe’re ready to help all our customers enjoy amazing tech during what we know is our busiest trading period of the year. Our teams are excited by the new tools and improvements they’ve got to help them, and our customers.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the benefits that digital queuing will bring in terms of improving the customer experience in-store, especially at our busiest periods. Also, we know order & collect is a really important proposition to customers over Christmas, so we’re excited to see the improvements come to life here.”

Following requests from customers and colleagues, stores are now opening longer.
