High street fashion retailer River Island has revealed the locations of the stores it plans to close as part of its restructuring process.

It will shut 33 of its 250 store estate and cut rents on an additional 71 stores ahead of the restructuring proposal set to go to a creditor vote in August.
Affected shops will stay open until January 2026, to get the most out of peak trading and to realign the company’s stock position, according to Drapers.
The report also included documents that showed River Island’s store estate split into seven categories of closure and rent reduction.
Only nine stores are planned to keep paying full rent, while 38 stores could see rent reductions of up to 75% for three years and 24 stores could move to a zero-rent model.
The closures form part of a strategy to improve its store estate and cut costs after results for the 52 weeks to December 30, 2024, saw a £33.2m pre-tax loss.
Last week, chief executive Ben Lewis said the business has been left with a “large portfolio of stores that is no longer aligned to our customers’ needs”.
