Fashion etailer Asos has blamed a third-party power outage for its website being unavailable to shoppers since yesterday evening.

Both the fashion etailer’s website and mobile app started encountering problems yesterday evening.

Nearly 20 hours later, shoppers are still unable able to access the site to view products or complete transactions.

An Asos spokeswoman said: “Yes, the site is down. This is because of a power outage at a third-party data centre that hosts our servers. This has impacted other businesses hosted by the centre.

“Our tech team are working hard to restore services which involves replacing damaged hardware. That’s why it’s taking longer to get back online. We are keeping our customers informed on social media.”

Tweeting from its customer service Twitter account at 8.17pm on Thursday, the retailer said: “Eek – looks like there’s a tech glitch with the site and app. Bear with us – the IT gurus are on it!”

An error message on the Asos homepage reads: ”Erm, ’scuse us, we need a little time out. The site isn’t currently available but we’re doing everything we can to get it back up soon!”

Shoppers have taken to social media to vent their disappointment at not being able to access the fashion ecommerce site.
