The chief executive of Superquinn, the Irish grocer that was bought out of receivership by rival Musgrave on Tuesday, has left the business.

It is understood Andrew Street exited after claiming that the receivership process imposed on the business by the banks was not being conducted in a way he found acceptable, according to RTE News.

Musgrave - which operates the Budgens and Londis brands in the UK, and Supervalu and Centra in Ireland – took on all Superquinn’s 23 stores and 2,800 staff for an undisclosed sum.

KPMG was appointed receiver to Superquinn on Monday, on the instructions of a consortium of banks which were owed around €400m.
