John Lewis’s IT director Paul Coby has been promoted to oversee technology operations across the department store retailer and Waitrose.
Coby, who has been at the helm of John Lewis’s IT operations since 2011, has been promoted to manage the logistics and supply chain systems across the John Lewis Partnership.
In his new role Coby will also oversee technology development across the company’s warehouses, as well as in-store technology in John Lewis’s 47 department store outlets and Waitrose’s 349 supermarket branches.
A spokeswoman for the business said Coby’s role “will focus on co-ordinating our IT investments across the Partnership so that we use technology as effectively as possible”, which will include “co-ordinating decision-making and strategy and setting common standards for our IT teams across the Partnership”.
The retailer’s IT boss spoke to Retail Week in April and said that “the key thing that retailers need to be able to achieve with their technology is the ability to be agile, flexible and respond to genuine consumer needs”.
Coby has been instrumental in launching John Lewis’s JLab start-up incubator, which announced its 2016 finalists last month.
