B&Q has appointed a new director of retail media as it continues to strengthen its commercial offering and expand capabilities.

Laura Karsunky will take on the role and brings 20 years of experience across media, advertising and technology to lead the next phase of the retailer’s retail media offering. She joins from Amazon, where she spent over 10 years in senior leadership roles.

The home and DIY retailer said the appointment supports its ambition to bring more relevant experiences to customers and enable suppliers and brand partners to engage more effectively with B&Q customers.

As suppliers and brand partners ramp up demand for retail media solutions, Karsunky will play a pivotal role in shaping B&Q’s next phase of its retail media strategy to strengthen its commercial proposition and expand digital advertising and media capabilities.

B&Q ecommerce director Virginia Wakefield said: “Retail Media is a key strategic priority for B&Q, helping us deliver more relevant experiences for customers while creating greater value for our supplier and brand partners.

“Laura’s appointment comes at an important time as we continue to evolve our proposition, and her extensive experience will be instrumental in shaping the next stage of our growth. I’m delighted to welcome Laura to the team and look forward to seeing the impact she’ll make.”

Karsunky added: “I’m thrilled to be joining B&Q at such an exciting time for the business. There’s a real opportunity to build on the strong foundations already in place and continue developing a Retail Media proposition that creates value for both customers and our suppliers and brand partners. I’m looking forward to working with the team to drive the next phase of growth.”
