Former Play.com boss Stuart Rowe has joined online pharmacy business Chemist Direct as its new chief executive.

Rowe, who left Play.com last year following its acquisition by Japanese etail group Rakuten, is looking to increase Chemist Direct’s international business, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

The business, which was set up by Mitesh Soma in 2007, is already Europe’s largest online chemist. It has one customers and sells 30,000 discounted health and beauty products. Chemist Direct has an annual turnover of £15m.

Prior to his role at Play, Rowe was e-commerce director struggling music retailer HMV.
