New supermarket chain Haldanes Stores has acquired 13 new shops, bringing its total to 18.

The stores are located from the Midlands to Northern Scotland. The retailer wants 50 shops within the next four years.

Haldanes Stores chairman Arthur Harris said: “Our acquisition plans are right on track and we will have all 18 supermarkets running under the Haldanes name by Easter.”

He added: “We are still on the acquisition trail for other stores the length and breadth of the UK.”

Haldanes said it is the first mid-sized supermarket chain to start-up in the UK for 27 years.

Trading with the tagline ‘Refreshingly Local’, Haldanes will be headquartered in Grantham, Lincolnshire with a regional base in Broxburn.

Harris said 728 jobs would be created with the opening of the 18 stores.
