Waitrose has boosted its commitment to the capital with a multi-million pound investment in its store network.

The upmarket grocer unveiled its latest convenience shop in Wandsworth New Acres this week, following recent refurbishments at its Marylebone and Clerkenwell supermarkets.

The stores received a new look bakery, improved fruit and vegetables section as well as new refrigeration and additional self-service tills alongside staffed checkouts.

The transformations form part of Waitrose’s £1bn investment into new stores and improvements to 150 existing shops over the next three years.

The grocer said its shops in Crouch End, Old Brompton Road and Coulsdon in London were set to receive upgrades before the end of the year, with further transformations scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

Waitrose interim managing director Tina Mitchell said: “From our roots in Acton where we opened our very first shop, to Streatham, which saw our first supermarket, and now our newest convenience shop in Wandsworth, London has always been home to Waitrose and central to our success.

“Today, as we open our 62nd store in the capital, we’re committing to investing millions to expand and refresh our portfolio. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and by continually listening to what our customers want and need, we are well positioned for future growth in London and across the UK.”

Waitrose unveiled its first new look store at its John Barnes supermarket in North West London last year, which Mitchell said at the time formed the “blueprint” for its store renewal programme.
