Asda chief executive Andy Clarke is to take over the presidency of food and grocery research and training charity IGD next year.
He will take over on January 1 and serve as the charity’s industry representative and public voice for a two-year term.
Clarke, who has been IGD vice-president for the past two years, succeeds Mars Chocolate UK and global retail president Fiona Dawson.
He said: “I am delighted to take on the mantle of IGD president and continue the fantastic work that Fiona, Joanne [Denney-Finch, IGD chief executive] and the team have delivered. In my 30 years in this industry I’ve never known a period as challenging and exciting as we’re currently in. The pace of change is phenomenal and the UK is leading the way in many areas.”
Clarke has been head of Asda since 2010, and was chief operating office at the grocer for three years prior to that.
