Fashion retailer Topshop has posted another hint towards a return to bricks-and-mortar on London’s iconic Oxford Street.
In a new post shared on Instagram today, Topshop shared a clip of London mayor Sadiq Khan calling for the iconic British brand to return to London’s Oxford Steet.
In the original clip, which saw Khan speaking to fashion publication Who What Wear, he named shopping at Topshop among his best memories on Oxford Street.
The mayor of London said: “I’d meet my mates outside Topshop, my daughters I used to take shopping at Topshop and I know every type of Topshop jean. Wouldn’t it be great to get Topshop back on Oxford Street?”
The new post has sparked excitement among shoppers on social media, with one saying “it was iconic and still is”, while others are asking for Asos to “bring Topshop back” and “make it happen” in regards to the brand’s bricks-and-mortar comeback.
This comes as Topshop has been dropping hints on Instagram with captions such as “watch this space”.
The fashion brand was also the official sponsor for this year’s Universal Music Brit Awards after party, which involved a collaboration with conceptual artist Russ Jones. Topshop hinted at a continuation of its partnership with the artist, captioning one post “About last night… more to come?”
Topshop is also gearing up to relaunch its website with a holding page now being live at ‘topshop.com’ saying “coming soon”.
The brand is currently available to shop online at Asos.
Asos, which offloaded 75% of the Topshop and Topman brands to Bestseller as part of a joint venture last year, has never ruled out a return of the Topshop brand to the high street.
Asos boss José Antonio Ramos Calamonte said last year that a focus on relaunching the brand online was its “first approach” but that by partnering with Bestseller, Topshop and Topman have the help of “extensive expertise and a presence in other channels, including wholesale and physical stores”.
