James Knowles - Retail Week

James Knowles, Head of Content Innovation, Retail Week 

James Knowles is Head of Content Innovation at Connect, Retail Week’s content marketing business. He leads the innovation strategy for the brand’s commercial content, delivering new sponsored content and event products, formats and campaigns.  
 
Devising creative solutions to meet clients’ needs – be they brand awareness, lead generation, or both – James has worked with some of the largest clients, from Google, to Microsoft, Salesforce, and PwC. 

Leading projects from pitch to publish as project manager, James leads on annual campaigns such as flagship report Retail 2024, for which he interviews over 40 UK CEOs every year and chairs an associated breakfast, and his most recent new product launch, Retail Week’s networking Clubhouses.   

He also chairs panels, speaks at events and delivers client presentations. 

He has spent 16 years working across consumer celebrity and lifestyle magazines, and business trade titles. This has included Australia’s longest-running women’s and celebrity title New Idea and fashion business publication Drapers, before joining Retail Week Connect in 2017. 

Helen White Bamboo Clothing

Helen White, Product and Brand Director, Bamboo Clothing 

Helen is responsible for the look and feel of the BAM brand and ranges, which includes planning range shoots, putting images together, devising the strategic plans for the new ranges and driving innovation with designs for the climate-positive, purposeful activewear brand, working collaboratively with the MD and Marketing Director. Her role is split between her home in Devon, the brand’s creative team in Plymouth and the design team in London.  

Since studying fashion Helen has worked in the business of fashion her whole career, which has included stints working for well-known high street brands including Miss Selfridge, Laura Ashley and Fat Face.  

While working with a leading sportswear brand she realised that their idea of creating a range for women was to “make it pink” and knew she could do better. So she joined the design team at then new Sweaty Betty, where she helped develop the branded range the label is known for today.  

“I learned then that fashion can stand for something, it can empower and help bring about change, and it’s this ethos I’ve brought to my role at BAM. Only this time it’s not just about empowering people, it’s about empowering the planet too,” says Helen.
