Sean Trend has been promoted to managing director for the UK and US

Asos confirmed the promotion of North America SVP Sean Trend to managing director for the UK and US, while former SVP of operations Jag Weatherley has been named managing director for Europe and the rest of the world.

As part of the changes, Topshop and Topman chief of staff and strategy Michelle Wilson is stepping up as managing director of the two and will also take responsibility for Asos’ global wholesale business, overseeing its partnerships with Nordstrom, Reliance Retail and Bestseller worldwide.

Other changes include Vanessa Spence being promoted to EVP of brand and creative and Ras Vaghjiani stepping up to become EVP of people, communications and strategy.

The team changes at Asos are understood to be effective from April and bosses hope they will help “streamline decision-making processes, empower teams and strengthen Asos’ ability to quickly respond to market opportunities”.

Asos chief executive José Antonio Ramos Calamonte said: “These changes represent an exciting new chapter for Asos. By reorganising and focusing on our strengths, we’re better equipped to seize opportunities and accelerate our growth.

“The talent and dedication of our teams are our greatest assets and these organisational updates are designed to harness those qualities more effectively than ever so we can deliver the best product and most exciting experiences for our customers.

“We will continue to innovate, collaborate and lead with our passion and commitment as we relentlessly pursue our goal of becoming the world’s number-one destination for fashion-loving twenty-somethings.”

Asos said the appointments follow the retailer’s “strong strategic progress” after it reduced stock levels, bolstered its product offering and refinanced its debt.

Asos has also been working to strengthen its technology function with the appointment of former Zalando executive Przemek Czarnecki as EVP of technology earlier this month.

Asos said the reorganisation of its digital product and technology functions is complete and now is “the right time” to reorganise its other business capabilities.
