Currys said conversion has been boosted in the stores where ESEL is already present

The technology is already available in over 150 stores, but a full rollout is expected by November 13.

In partnership with Solum and Vestcom, Currys has chosen to invest in the new shelves to “enhance the in-store experience” for its millions of customers.

The electricals retailer said conversion is being boosted in the stores where ESEL is already present, and forms part of its commitment to support colleagues and make it easier for customers to shop.

Customer feedback found that shoppers find the stores look and feel smarter while being more navigable.

ESEL replaces paper price tags with digital displays to provide customers with real-time pricing, clearer product information and easy-to-scan QR codes for more information.

Colleagues will also have more time on their hands to help customers, as Currys said paper labelling had become a “pain point” during busy periods.

The labels will save millions of pieces of paper each year and have a 7-12-year battery life.

Currys chief operating officer Lindsay Haselhurst said: “Rolling out digital ticketing across our stores is more than a tech upgrade, it’s a commitment to our customers and colleagues.

“By delivering real-time pricing and clearer product information, we’re making shopping for customers simpler and smarter.

“By removing the burden of manual labelling across the estate, we’re giving our store teams more time to do what they love: helping customers enjoy amazing technology.”
