Carphone Warehouse is mulling the sale of its €300m (£259.7m) French arm as part of a review of the business, it is understood.

Europe’s largest independent mobile phones retailer has spoken to interested buyers of its 250-store Phone House business, the Financial Times has reported. Phone House generates €300m in turnover annually.

It is thought the French retailer has attracted expressions of interest from domestic retailers and telecoms companies that have retail operations.

Carphone has not made a final decision about whether to sell the business, which is half-owned by US electricals giant Best Buy. The review is expected to end next month.

Phone House is operating in a challenging French mobile phones market due to low margins and fierce competition.

Carphone Warehouse declined to comment.
