Retailer also looking for store locations across the UK
Discount retailer Underfivepounds.com launched a clothing range last week, aiming to rival Matalan, Primark and the major supermarkets.

Modelled by ex-Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati, everything in the range costs under five pounds, with some items available for as little as£1.99.

The concept was launched last April, with a web site and ten stores in the Midlands, Northeast and East Anglia. This venture is the company's first foray into clothing.

Owner Harjeet Johal sources the clothing mainly from the Far East to find the most competitive prices, but tries to use local niche suppliers where he can. The goods available online are exactly the same as those stocked in-store.

As part of the company's expansion strategy, Johal is also looking for new store locations across the country.

Johal comes from an established family of retailers, the Nottingham-based owners of Clothing Direct. Over the past year, several Clothing Direct stores have been re-branded to the Underfivepounds.com fascia.

Underfivepounds.com has an annual turnover of£8 million.
