TJX Companies is best known for operating the brands TJ Maxx and TK Maxx in the US and Europe respectively. Founded as TJ Maxx in the US in 1976, UK subsidiary TK Maxx and sister company HomeSense are owned by US-based TJX Companies, the world’s largest off-price clothing and homewares retailer. TK Maxx opened its first UK store in Bristol in 1994, while Canadian retailer HomeSense established itself in the UK in 2008. TK Maxx stocks branded men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, footwear, lingerie and accessories, as well as homewares, luggage and toys.

The TJX Companies’ UK subsidiary continued to make a strong recovery in the most recent financial year for which results have been filed with Companies House, following a period that was negatively affected by the pandemic. Overall UK sales rose 17.5% to £3.89bn in the 2022 financial year to end-January 2023 (FY2022), while UK retail sales climbed 14.4% to £2.80bn. Profits widened in FY2022 after the retailer had returned to the black at pre-tax and operating levels the year before.
