Quirky fashion retailer sees London presence expand
Fashion retailer Ted Baker attributed its strong interim results to its store expansion programme today.

The retailer recorded a 16.9 per cent group turnover increase for the 28 weeks ending August 14 last year, to£49 million across its retail, wholesale and licence businesses. Profit before tax was£5.8 million, up 25.9 per cent.

The retailer cited the successful launches of its Endurance store at London's Covent Garden and its Best In Show store at Westbourne Grove in west London as instrumental in its buoyant sales for the half year. Stores at Guildford in Surrey and Stansted Airport were also opened during the period.

Ted Baker chief executive Ray Kelvin said: 'Strong sales and profit growth were achieved in the first half of the year as the Ted Baker brand continues its successful expansion in the UK and internationally. We are delighted to announce the forthcoming opening of a new London store in Regent Street in November.'

The retailer also announced the departure of former Marks & Spencer joint managing director Lord Stone of Blackheath as non-executive director.
