Raising business rates on warehouses would hit traditional retailers harder than Amazon
Andy Burnham floated a higher business rate on warehouses to charge online giants to fund the high street support. The data shows the largest bills would fall on traditional retailers instead.
According to an analysis by property tax firm Ryan, seven of the 10 distribution warehouses with the highest rates bills are occupied by traditional retailers. Amazon accounts for the other three.
