Boots has installed a new IT network across its British and Norwegian businesses in the first phase of a five-year digital transformation.

Preparing the way for advancing the consumer pharmacy and health retail giant’s omnichannel capabilities, BT has been contracted to overhaul the system across 3,500 stores and distribution sites in Europe and Asia.

Boots said the new network would provide improved IT performance and reliability to support core systems and applications for employees.

BT is also introducing new technologies across the business to boost employee productivity, improve customer service and foster innovation in store and online.

Improved in-store wi-fi

One of the main benefits is upgraded wi-fi for Boots’ UK flagship stores to ensure they have the necessary bandwidth to support connectivity during peak times.

Walgreens Boots Alliance global vice-president of IT shared services, Erwin van Vroenhoven, said: “Digital innovation is a key area of investment for our company.

“Our new IT platform, provided by BT, will help us to further improve the customer experience and our colleagues’ productivity, while enabling us to provide innovative services that will help us continue to meet our customers’ ever-changing health and beauty needs.”
