Tesco has launched its first grocery shopping app for the iPhone.

The UK’s largest retailer said the launch represents a “landmark moment” for the supermarket, as it is the first time Tesco has created a shopping portal specifically optimised for the iPhone.

Customers can now shop on the go for their groceries via their iPhones.  The free app, which can be downloaded from Apple iTunes, allows customers to add and remove products from an existing order, book a delivery slot, browse for products by department, shelves and aisles, and display nutritional and storage info for some products, as well as checkout via their mobile.

Chief executive for Tesco.com Laura Wade-Gery said:   “We’re always looking for ways to make life easier for customers. The iPhone app creates a fantastic new way to shop with tesco.com whenever you want, whether you’re adding last minute essentials or starting a new order.”

Tesco already has apps including Clubcard and the Winefinder, which together have now be downloaded one million times.
