Morrisons is to spend £1.5 million introducing wireless networks and devices at five of its manufacturing plants.
The investment will allow the grocer to automate and improve the accuracy of business processes in these facilities that are at the moment paper-based.
The project will enable its manufacturing centres to benefit from real-time information once the company’s Oracle eBiz ERP system is introduced later this year.
The grocer is working with Zetes and Computacenter to implement the Cisco wireless LAN as part of its ongoing programme to upgrade its IT across the business.
The roll-out of the wireless networks and devices has just begun and should finish by September this year. It follows a pilot project in October last year.
Morrisons was already working with Zetes on a £6 million project to introduce voice-directed picking to all of its warehouses, which is also still underway.
