Argos is increasing the size of its in-house technology team by a quarter to drive innovations and improve the convenience of its shopping experience.

The Sainsbury’s-owned retailer’s technology recruitment drive ranges across software development, big data and machine learning roles.

New recruits, which will span from graduate level upwards, will be based across the retailer’s London office and headquarters in Milton Keynes.

Argos said that new recruits will work “with a range of emerging technologies” to drive innovations across the business.

Chief executive John Rogers said: “Creating 150 new permanent tech roles demonstrates the importance we place on growing and nurturing our own tech talent, ensuring Argos is a fantastic place to shop for our customers.

“We’re excited by what our teams are achieving so far and we’re looking for more people who not only want to build today’s tech, but also to think big and create new experiences and functionality that our customers don’t even know they want yet.”

The general merchandise retailer opened up two new fulfilment centres in November to bolster its Fast Track capabilities and Rogers said at Retail Week Live last month that it is on track to hit £2bn in m-commerce sales in its current financial year.
