Amazon has offered free access to a rotating library of ebooks and magazines to its UK Prime members.
The online behemoth’s latest service is called Prime Reading and will offer members access to more than 1,000 literary titles as well as exclusive access to various essays and short stories.
Members of the online retailer’s subscription service can access the e-books at no extra cost to their existing membership, either by a Kindle tablet device or on the corresponding app.
EU Kindle content director Alessio Santarelli said: “Amazon Prime just got even better with the addition of Prime Reading, giving customers unlimited access to over a thousand books including bestsellers, magazines and comics for no additional cost.
“Prime members will love the range of books now available to them on any device, with everything from psychological thrillers to business books, the latest travel guides and bestselling fiction.”
The move by Amazon to boost readership if its online library follows retailers including Tesco and Waterstones winding down their e-book divisions.
Prime Reading is the latest in a series of additions Amazon has made to its subscription service in recent months, including offering UK members access to exclusive live events and adding Alexa voice-ordering capabilities for users in the US.
