Tesco is testing contactless, paperless receipt technology which will link a shopper’s purchases to the grocer’s mobile app.

The grocer – which is trialling the new payment technology in its store in Harlow, Essex – will offer shoppers a sticker to apply to their debit card in order to link contactless payment to their app.

The three-month test will conclude next month, after which the grocer will get feedback from customers on whether to extend the technology across its wider store estate.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re always looking for ways to make the shopping trip a little bit easier for customers.

“We’re currently trialling a digital receipt service in one of our stores, which will allow customers to keep a record of all their receipts in one place.”

The grocer has partnered with technology supplier Tag Retail Systems on the technology.

Tesco’s trial of paperless receipt technology comes after the roll-out of its PayQwiq mobile payments app to 600 stores.
