H&M Group chain & Other Stories has debuted a vending machine in its Paris branch in a bid to drive contactless cosmetics sales.

The fashion retailer has installed a vending machine in its Galeries Lafayette concession in Paris which will allow shoppers to browse and buy bed and bath products across four of its best-selling fragrance ranges.

Shoppers will be able to buy soaps and mini hand creams up to bottles of perfume via the vending machine, which was developed by H&M Group’s in-house technology arm The Laboratory, which focuses on exploring innovative technology that can enhance the shopping experience for customers.

Head of The Laboratory Anna Tillberg Pantzar said & Other Stories Paris vending machine will serve as a pilot, and that the company will “test small and scale smart once having learnings.”

“We strive to constantly develop and challenge ourselves and there is always room for interesting new ideas and initiatives. With this pilot together with & Other Stories we want to offer a great customer experience with convenience and local relevance by being present in customers everyday life,” she added.

& Other Stories head of brand design Ebba Kettner said: “We felt very inspired by the idea of creating our own vending machine experience, turning it into a mini version of our stores. It has special features conveying several layers of our world.”
