Majestic Wine has partnered with Deliveroo to bring alcohol to customers’ doorsteps. Here we take a closer look at the delivery business:

  • Deliveroo was founded in 2013 by William Shu and Greg Orlowski and began its offer in the London area – it now has global offices across UK, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Dubai, Australia, Singapore & Hong Kong.
  • The service allows customers to order food from local restaurants - and now drinks - for home delivery in 30 minutes or less
  • Deliveroo, which takes a £2.50 fee for each order it delivers, is set to hit £130m in sales this year according to an internal projection it is understood to have shared with its investors.
  • It is now available in more than 65 cities across 12 countries and announced plans to launch in Plymouth next month.
  • Deliveroo’s partnership with Majestic Wine will allow London-based customers to order deliveries from eight of the retailer’s outlets to be delivered in 20 minutes or less.
  • As well as partnering with Majestic Wine, Deliveroo has collaborated with Scottish craft brewer BrewDog and will fulfil orders from 20 of its outlets across the UK.
  • The latest series of partnerships comes after the start-ups partnership with independent wine retailers including Mother Kelly’s and Vagabond Wines earlier this year.
  • The fulfilment start-up is growing at pace. It’s generated £200m in funding to date and raised $100m (£76.2m) in its latest round of funding in November from investment firms including Accel, Hummingbird Ventures and Index Ventures.
  • Deliveroo had humble beginnings – when the business launched in 2013 its co-founder Shu was one of the two drivers delivering to customers in London’s affluent Chelsea area.
  • The start-up now operates a fleet of self-employed delivery drivers who fulfil orders on bike or scooter.
  • Deliveroo has a variety of restaurant partners varying from independent businesses to chains such as Pizza Express and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
