Wilkin & Sons worked with HMKM and Itab to create Chelmsford’s new Tiptree store, which offers an expanded range of delectable products.

In From Russia With Love we learn that when taking breakfast, James Bond prefers ‘Little Scarlet’, a strawberry jam that forms part of the upmarket Tiptree range.

Since last week, if the ace spy ever travelled to Chelmsford, he would be able to visit a shop from the maker of Tiptree jams, Wilkin & Sons.

Taking a similar approach to brands such as Hunter wellies, the store has been created around a core product, which has been built upon to conceive both its interior and a jam-centred range.

The jam maker, which received a Royal Warrant in 2009, worked with consultancy HMKM and shopfitter Itab to create the Chelmsford store and tell the story of their conserves.

It has all the different jams on display and adds fruit-flavoured gins, candles, mini-hampers and honey, among other things, to the mix, as well as a cafe where fans can take tea.

Ultra-niche shops inevitably attract attention, but in terms of taking a product and creating an expanded range and store environment, this is a fine example of what is possible.
