Swedish-style kitchenwares retailer comes to the UK with plans for a rapid expansion across the country

Duka, a kitchenwares retailer founded in Sweden in the 1920s but based in Poland, has opened its first UK store in Brent Cross.

The business, acquired in 2009 by Swedish company Bergendahl Home Deco, trades from 60 stores across Europe.

The Brent Cross unit is close to 1,700 sq ft and has a Scandinavian minimalist design.

Large glazed windows allow views into a white interior where the only colour is provided by the stock, all of which has a neutral look to it, dominated by white, beige and natural wood.

Director of development and expansions, Faneau van Niekerk, said: “Brent Cross is the perfect location for our first store due to its current shop mix, customer demographic and location within the capital city.

“We are currently working on new locations for an assertive expansion strategy for 2017/18.”

He added that plans are in place to open 10 UK stores over the next year. It is understood that the next Duka store to open will be in Reading.
