F&F shop-in-shop offers blueprint for the rest of Tesco in the UK.

In a year in which Tesco has made a move away from large footprint stores, a bells and whistles Tesco Extra opened this morning in Woolwich, featuring a new look F&F shop-in-shop and beauty department. It is understood that the F&F area, at the front of the first floor, has been designed in collaoration with design consultany Four IV and several of the features that were incorporated into the F&F standalones in the Czech Republic have been imported to add fashion credibility to the space.

As this is a freestanding shop-in-shop however, lacking perimeter walls and with a need to have greater merchandise density, to allow for the greater traffic in a hypermarket, changes have been made to the mid-floor equipment. A floating fascia, that encapsulates the whole of the department, has been included to give the area greater definition.

A refurbished store in Pitsea, in Essex, also opened this morning - which includes a new F&F blueprint. The move by Tesco, gives it a platform for the rest of the chain, if these two pilots prove successful.
