Group like-for-like sales at jewellery retail giant Signet rose 3.2 per cent in the 13 weeks to November 3, in line with the first half. Total sales increased 10 per cent to US$678.7 million (£321.7 million).

In the UK, like-for-likes at HSamuel rose 3.5 per cent and jumped 6.5 per cent at Ernest Jones. UK sales, which account for about 28 per cent of the group’s total sales, rose 9.9 per cent to US$190.6 million (£90.3 million).

Signet group chief executive Terry Burman said: “In the UK, the business again performed well, with Ernest Jones once more achieving a robust like-for-like sales increase. In the US, the like-for-like performance during August and September was stronger than in October.”

In the 39 weeks to November 3, group like-for-like sales rose 3.2 per cent, with total sales up 9.4 per cent to US$2.28 billion (£1.08 billion).

Burman added: “While the trading environment remains uncertain on both sides of the Atlantic, we have continued to improve the quality of execution in both businesses and are well positioned to compete during the very important fourth quarter.”
