Indian department store operator Shoppers’ Stop has appointed London design consultancy Portland to work on its forthcoming 53,820 sq ft (5,000 sq m) department store in Hyderabad.

Portland’s brief is to create and develop the retail concept and store graphics for the three-level shop, which is due to open during the first half of next year.

Portland’s appointment means that Shoppers’ Stop now has two London consultancies on its books. JHP Design, which has worked with John Lewis on the launch of its food hall, is employed by Shoppers’ Stop to create interiors for a number of high-profile stores in cities across India.

Portland’s clients include Sainsbury’s, Dorothy Perkins, Paris Gallery and Rigby & Peller.
