Lidl has partnered with Subway to share space as the sandwich specialist’s opens within its Cromer site.

The Subway store takes up 800 sq ft within the development and aims to cater for both locals and the forthcoming summer tourist trade in the Norfolk town.

Lidl has not previously partnered with other businesses within its stores and the move comes as the grocers are increasingly upping their food-to-go in-store offers.

Subway, which has more than 300 stores in what it calls “non-traditional” locations including convenience stores and universities, also has shop-in-shops in Tesco.

Subway UK area development manager Trevor Haynes said: “The non-traditional locations are a key area of growth for the Subway brand in the UK and Ireland. The simple operations that are involved in running a Subway franchise and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for these style locations.

“The partnership with Lidl is the first of its kind and we are excited to see what this could lead to in the future.”
