Asos has posted a jump in third-quarter sales, bolstered by a leap in its active customer and total order numbers.

The fashion etailer reported a 32% boost in total retail sales year on year to £660.1m in the four months to June 30, driven by a 44% hike in international sales.

Total retail sales were up 26% on a constant currency basis, while international sales increased 32%.

UK sales rose 16% and the retailer’s active customer numbers, average basket value and active order frequency increased 25%, 3% and 6% respectively.

Asos’ total number of orders shipped also jumped 28% to 16.9 million and its retail gross margin was flat year on year.

The pureplay etailer, whose boss Nick Beighton spoke to Retail Week last month about investing in technologies including visual search and instant customer refunds, launched more than 300 tech initiatives during the period.

The online retailer also completed the first phase of development of its second European warehouse.

Speaking about the results, Beighton said: “Strong first-half sales momentum has continued through the third period supported by our ongoing investment in our customer proposition and in price.

“This good performance has been underpinned by advances across all areas of our business including retail, technology, warehousing, delivery solutions and customer care.

“We have made a smooth transition to our new Eurohub 2 facility in Germany and anticipate confirming a new US logistics hub soon.

“We remain on track and confident of meeting market expectations and will release our results for the year.”
