Expansion programme continues
Specialist homewares group Dunelm revealed total sales increased 13.2 per cent to£178.4 million, compared to£157.6 million in 2005, for the 26 weeks ending December 30.

Like-for-like sales rose 5 per cent during the first half, confirming the popularity of the retailer's Simply Value for Money customer offer.

Dunelm's store expansion programme continued, with two superstores opening at Stevenage in Hertfordshire and at Colchester. The Swansea outlet was relocated to a larger unit. The retailer presently trades from 83 stores, 66 of which are out-of-town superstores.

The group said that, despite some one-off costs, the underlying profitability of the business remains strong and in line with expectations.

Dunelm chief executive Will Adderly said: 'The last six months have seen a significant milestone in the development of the company, with our successful IPO in October.

'The business has delivered a strong performance in the first half as customers have continued to respond favourably to our Simply Value for Money proposition, backed up by tremendous choice and good, friendly service.

'We are pleased with the customer reaction to our new stores and remain confident that we will achieve a total of at least six superstore openings in this financial year, in line with the guidance given at the time of the IPO.'
