Walmart has appointed former Notonthehighstreet.com chief executive and Tesco director Simon Belsham as president of its Jet.com ecommerce business.

Belsham will be tasked with overseeing all of Jet.com’s online operations including general merchandise and grocery, and will join parent company Walmart’s US ecommerce leadership team.

His appointment comes after he stepped down as chief executive of Notonthehighstreet in September 2017, after two years at the helm.

Belsham’s appointment comes as Walmart ups its ambitions for online grocery. The retailer intends to expand its home delivery service to 100 US cities and offer click and collect at 2,200 stores by the end of the year.

An email sent to staff by Walmart’s US ecommerce chief executive and Jet.com founder Marc Lore said: “With Jet grocery being an integral part of [our] strategy, Simon brings incredible experience in scaling grocery delivery and his unique background in converging technology and retail.”

Prior to joining Notonthehighstreet in 2015, Belsham spent three years at the helm of Tesco’s online arm, prior to which he was Ocado’s director of non-food for nearly two years.

He will succeed Liza Landsman, who left the company last March, in his new role.

Belsham said: “In my view, there is no business better positioned to take advantage of the opportunity ahead than the combination of Walmart and Jet.”
