Ted Baker has added former Sports Direct chief financial officer Jon Kempster to its non-executive board.

The struggling fashion retailer, which warned on profits last week as chief executive Lindsay Page and chair David Bernstein both exited with immediate effect, has bolstered its non-executive board with Kempster.

The former Sports Direct chief financial officer will act as chair of the audit and risk committee and also join the retailer’s remuneration committee with immediate effect.

His appointment coincides with the departure of non-executive director Ron Stewart, who has been on the Ted Baker board for nine years, with immediate effect.

Kempster stepped down as chief financial officer of Sports Direct in July after the business was hit with an eleventh-hour €674m tax bill from the Belgian authorities which further delayed the posting of its full-year results.

Acting chair of Ted Baker Sharon Baylay said: “We are delighted that Jon has joined the Board of Ted Baker. Jon has a wealth of relevant public company experience in multinational organisations across a range of sectors. In particular, he has a strong track record in the areas of corporate development, strategy implementation, and operational performance transformation.

Jon Kempster added: “Ted Baker is a strong global brand and I pleased to be joining the Board at an important time in the Group’s ongoing development.”
