John Lewis Partnership is to bolster its workforce as it seeks to recruit more than 10,000 people across the UK in a bid to deliver “exceptional service”.

The recruitment drive will include 8,400 seasonal roles over the Christmas period as well as seeking to fill 1,700 positions in “a variety of roles” across its Waitrose and John Lewis businesses over the next few months.

JLP said this reflects its “strong omnichannel presence” with vacancies opening up across its stores and distribution network.

There are set to be more than 2,800 seasonal roles available at Waitrose across its 329 stores with roles including supermarket assistants, customer delivery drivers and night-shift workers.

In John Lewis stores, there will be more than 2,900 temporary roles across its sales and merchandising departments.

JLP said that 2,700 of its seasonal roles will also be in its supply chain, including warehouse operative and driver positions, to “deliver customers a seamless digital experience” across its Waitrose and John Lewis brands as well as the click-and-collect service.

The retailer said that all successful candidates will be offered a competitive salary, full training and “potential for development opportunities”.

JLP executive director of people Lisa Cherry said: “We’re hugely proud of the way our two brands have become part of the excitement that surrounds Christmas and this is a great opportunity to be at the heart of that at such a special time.

“Our customers are at the forefront of everything we do; we want to deliver a great festive season for them with inspirational products and the very best customer service courtesy of our brilliant partners.”
