Former Dunelm boss John Browett has taken the reins at energy saving expert BillSaveUK in his first role since leaving the homewares business.

Browett, a former Dixons Carphone and Apple executive and Monsoon Accessorize boss, is understood to have taken up the role at the Leicester-based business towards the end of last year.

Commenting on LinkedIn, Browett said he has been drafted in to oversee a company turnaround four days a week. He also alluded to other projects in the pipeline.

It comes months after Browett made a shock departure from Dunelm last summer after two years in the hot seat.

The retailer said at the time of his exit in August that it had “made good progress”, but was seeking “different leadership” to drive the next phase of its growth plan.

During his time at the helm, Browett oversaw the acquisition and integration of Worldstores, which includes the Kiddicare brand.

Dunelm said the deal had given it a “springboard for online growth and range development”, despite costs relating to the acquisition dragging pre-tax profit down 15.2% to £109.3m in the year to July 1, 2017.

Last month, Dunelm appointed former Evans Cycles boss Nick Wilkinson as its new chief executive.

Wilkinson will officially take up the role in February.
