Ebay has snapped up Tesco’s head of general merchandise Rob Hattrell to succeed Tanya Lawler as UK vice president.

Hattrell will join the online marketplace next month and will oversee its UK business, reporting into European vice president Paul Todd.

Hattrell joins the etailer after eight years with Tesco.

He arrived at the grocery giant in 2009 as IT director and held various roles throughout the business, culminating in director of general merchandise, a role he has held since 2014.

Prior to joining Tesco he was a partner at global retail practice Accenture.

Hattrell will take the helm from Lawler, who stepped down as UK vice president after four years at Ebay in November.

Paul Todd said: “I am delighted to welcome Rob Hattrell to Ebay. He brings vast experience in both online and physical retail, and I am truly excited about the ways in which these experiences can help to drive the Ebay UK business forward in 2017.”

Hattrell added: “Customers, empowered by technology, are driving the continuous growth of internet retailing, and Ebay is very much part of that seismic shift in the market.

“By focusing on our customers’ needs and by continuing to enable entrepreneurship I look forward to helping build the next chapter of Ebay in the UK.”
