Dixons Carphone has snapped up Halfords chief finance officer Jonny Mason to bolster its executive board.

Mason will step down from the cycling specialist in September after nearly three years on the board and a stint as interim chief executive following the departure of Jill McDonald to Marks & Spencer.

In his new role as group finance director for Dixons Carphone, Mason will report to incoming chief executive and former Shop Direct boss Alex Baldock.

Speaking about Mason’s appointment, Baldock said: “I am delighted to have Jonny by my side. He has an outstanding track record and brings the experience and qualities we need to take Dixons Carphone into the next phase of its transformation.”

Prior to joining Halfords, Mason held finance roles at businesses ranging from Odeon, Sainsbury’s and Shell, and was chief financial officer for Scandinavian firm Scandi Standard AB during its Stockholm listing in 2014.

“I am thrilled to be joining Dixons Carphone,” said Mason.

“The business has undergone a tremendous journey over recent years and is well placed to meet customers’ ever growing and complex needs for technology.

“I have experienced first-hand as a customer the quality of our shops, product and services, from my time living in both the UK and Norway, and I feel proud to join the group to work with Alex, the board and our great team of colleagues.”

A search for Mason’s successor at Halfords is under way.

Halfords chairman Dennis Millard said: “We are grateful to Jonny for the positive impact he has made across the business and the crucial role he played as interim chief executive prior to Graham Stapleton joining Halfords as chief executive in January.

“Jonny will leave Halfords with a strong and highly regarded finance team.”
