Chancellor Rachel Reeves has said the UK is now the “best place for investment and business” because of the deals struck with the US, the EU and India.

Reeves told the BBC that the UK is in a better place on trade “than any other country in the world” and that the country’s economic growth was on track to be upgraded.

This week, the UK and EU made a deal across areas such trade, fishing, defence and energy.

This arrived after the government reached a trade deal with India, which included making it easier for UK companies to export certain products like whisky to the country, and reduced taxes on India’s clothing and footwear exports.

The government also came to an agreement with President Trump to reduce tariffs on certain goods traded between the UK and US.

However, other political parties have criticised the Labour government for some of the outcomes of the deal,s as Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the UK has gone “backwards” due to the latest EU deal.

Speaking to the BBC, Reeves said: “Britain is in a better place than any other country in the world in terms of deals with those countries.

“The first deal and the best deal so far with the US, we’ve got the best deal with the EU for any country outside the EU, and we’ve got the best trade agreement with India.

“Not only are these important in their own right, but they also show that Britain now is the place for investment and business, because we’ve got preferential deals with the biggest economies around the world.”

She also suggested to the publication that the government wanted to go further into its agreement with the EU and that a trade deal with countries in the Gulf would be “the next deal”.
