Burnham will make high streets a measure of his success

Apparent prime minister-in-waiting Andy Burnham has signalled that thriving high streets will be one measure of whether he delivers on his ambitions.

In a speech laying out his vision, Burnham, recently returned as an MP and who could take over as prime minister as early as July 20 if he is unopposed as leader, flagged the importance of healthy high streets as part of his vision of a Britain which succeeds by devolving many more powers to regions.
