Retail stalwart Simon Burke has been appointed non-executive chairman at Bathstore.

Also the chair of Hobbycraft, Burke has extensive experience and formerly held senior positions at Majestic Wine, Hamleys and Virgin Entertainment.

He is also a director at the BBC and chairman of Eagle Eye solutions, a mobile commerce business.

Burke’s appointment to Bathstore, which was acquired by turnaround group Endless for £15m in May, follows that of chief executive Gary Favell also in May.

Favell said: “Simon has a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly help us progress the turnaround of Bathstore.

“I’m delighted to welcome him to the board and look forward to working with him more closely in the coming months to implement company-wide changes.”

Retail Week revealed in August that Favell plans to transform Bathstore into an omnichannel business.

Burke said: “Bathstore is a great brand with a strong product offer which had lost direction in recent years. I’m looking forward to helping Gary and the team realise its very significant potential.”
