The UK’s busiest high street came to a standstill on Saturday as protestors chained themselves to the railings in objection to the government’s Welfare Reform Bill.

On Saturday protesters blocked traffic at the junction between Oxford Street and Regent’s Street – two of the busiest high street’s in the world - with a line of wheelchairs.

The protest comes after several last year in London’s West End, which hampered trade for shops in the area, with some having to close.

In March luxury department store Fortnum and Mason was targeted by protestors as part of the anti-government spending march while stores including Topshop on Oxford Street were targeted amid protests against a rise in student tuition fees.

Stores were targeted again when UK Uncut, the same organisation that organised last Saturday’s protest, led a protest against tax evaders.  Oxford Street’s Topshop was forced to close whilst other Topshop stores were targeted across the country.  Vodafone, another target, were forced to close all three of its stores on Oxford Street on the same day.
