Fashion giants TK Maxx and JD Sports are to launch new online offers in an attempt to snap up a share of burgeoning online sales in the discounted fashion sector.

Discount designer retailer TK Maxx is understood to be gearing up to launch a transactional web site in time for Christmas.

It is believed that the retailer will launch the site with technology platform provider Venda, which runs transactional web sites for several high profile retailers including Monsoon, Superdrug and Crabtree & Evelyn.

Industry sources said the site will not be a “big gear change” for the retailer but that it would keep its offer relevant to their customers.

JD Sports is also set to launch a web site offering more discounted lines. The as-yet unnamed site, which will be separate from its main online offer, will be a catalogue-driven offer similar to the strategy employed by rival e-tailer M and M Direct.

TK Maxx and JD Sports are the latest in a string of retailers to expand by offering more discounted lines – particularly online – as customers are hit by the economic downturn.

This month, fashion e-tailer Asos launched its clearance site Asos Red. Luxury e-tailer Net-a-porter is also poised to go live with its equivalent of an outlet store, called the Outnet.com, to expand its customer reach.

TK Maxx did not return calls as Retail Week went to press and JD Sports declined to comment.
