Matalan has revealed that the average transaction price on its fledgling website is almost a third higher than in its bricks-and-mortar stores after the site’s successful launch.

The figure for the retailer’s website, which launched in November with 3,000 SKUs, is £28, versus £20 in stores.

Matalan chief executive Alistair McGeorge said that Matalan would add a “significant” amount of product online this year as the value fashion and homewares retailer seeks to broaden its customer base.

Sales at Matalan - which will ramp up expansion from 2010, with ambitions to grow from 203 to 300 stores - rose 2 per cent to £1.04bn in the year to February 28.

EBITDA rose 6.3 per cent to £145.1m. Like-for-likes were up 8.2 per cent in the 14 weeks to June 6. The growth was driven by new sub-brands and store refurbishments.
