Walmart’s Jet.com ecommerce business is to part company with Simon Belsham, the former Tesco chief digital officer and Notonthehighstreet.com boss who only joined in March last year.

Belsham, who also previously worked for Ocado as director of non-food, will leave Jet.com in August.

His departure is part of a restructuring as Walmart and Jet.com – which the US giant acquired for $3bn in 2016 – merge teams including retail, marketing, technology and others within Walmart.

Jet.com founder Marc Lore, now president and chief executive of Walmart ecommerce US, revealed that Belsham would leave in a blog post.

He wrote: “With the teams creating synergy and Jet becoming even more focused, we don’t have the same need for a dedicated leader, so Jet president Simon Belsham will be supporting the Jet transition through early August.

“Simon has been critical in repositioning Jet to reach urban customers. His steadfast leadership, deep knowledge of the retail industry and passion for our associates and customers had a positive impact on our organisation. I can’t thank him enough for all he has done and appreciate his leadership and contributions.”

Responsibility for Jet’s strategy and management will now lie with Kieran Shanahan, who is also in charge of Walmart’s online food, consumables and health and wellness categories.

Shanahan previously worked at Walmart’s Asda business in the UK, where he was vice-president, operations, for ecommerce and online grocery.
